Stretching Dollars For The Homeless
River Falls, Wisconsin - 2009
There is a great need in our community for shelter for homeless families and individuals. A local group of citizens has formed a homeless coalition in River Falls and is working on creating shelter for homeless people in need in our communities.
From a long-term perspective, there are hopes to have a building designated for the program (rather than having a rotating, temporary, overnight place for people to stay) and funding advocates to work with the families and individuals to support them in rising up. From a short-term perspective, people are in need of emergency shelter and food. The details of the project are still in the development stage.
As an effort to help create funding for the program, Liz Jones (pictured above), a local yoga instructor, is offering a DVD of her yoga class for a free-will donation to the homeless task force efforts. All profits will be put in a special fund at the United Way- St. Croix Valley to be used for housing resources for homeless individuals in the area.
BMF Sports is sponsoring the DVD and will be sending out any mail orders for the production. Special thanks also to Vikki Klanderman, from Hammond, WI for taping the production.
Some local businesses that will be carrying the DVD to support the efforts to raise money for our neighbors in need are; Red Sky- Spring Valley WI, Pierce County Human Services- Ellsworth WI, Stone Soup Gallery- Hammond WI, Steve McDonald American Family Agency- Hudson WI.
Cash donations are accepted and checks can be made payable to “United Way Housing Resource Network.” Please stop by and pick one up or order one today!
For more information please contact Liz Jones: ladyliz10@hotmail.com or call 715-778-4843 if you would like to order a DVD or if you would like to have them available at your place of business. The DVDs will be ready around May 9th.
